Urban Buynship is a locally operated service in Timmins providing convenient, members only transportation and pickup/drop off solutions. Members get access to services such as:

• Local shuttle service
• Online grocery pick up & drop
• Online LCBO/beer pick up & drop
• Fast food/restaurant take out pick up & drop
• Tobacco/vape/lottery purchase & drop
• Missed garbage collection – dump runs
• Vehicle battery boost

Urban Buynship operates on a members only model, with:
• $100 annual membership fee, and
• $80 monthly service fee
Your role is to grow this membership base and promote contests that keep our community engaged.

Role Overview
The Membership Recruiter & Contest Promoter is responsible for driving Urban Buynship’s growth by:

  • Selling annual memberships and monthly service plans to residents in Timmins and surrounding communities.
  • Promoting periodic contests and special promotions to attract new members and reward existing ones.
  • Representing Urban Buynship in a professional, community‑oriented way, with an emphasis on building trust and long‑term relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Recruitment

  • Actively promote Urban Buynship memberships in the community (in‑person, phone, social media, events, door‑to‑door where appropriate).
  • Clearly explain the benefits of the $100 annual membership and $80 monthly service fee packages.
  • Generate leads, follow up with interested residents, and close membership sales.
  • Maintain accurate records of member sign‑ups, contact information, and referral sources.

Contest & Promotion Activities

  • Help design and promote contests (e.g., membership drives, referral contests, seasonal giveaways, and customer appreciation door prizes) to increase sign‑ups and membership engagement.
  • Distribute promotional materials and explain contest rules and prizes to potential and existing members.
  • Collect contest entries, ensure rules are followed, and assist with winner selection and basic reporting.

Community & Brand Representation

  • Represent Urban Buynship at community events, Indigenous community gatherings, markets, and local hotspots as needed.
  • Answer questions about services, routes, hours, and membership requirements in a friendly, informed way.
  • Provide feedback from the community to management on what promotions, services, or routes people are asking for.

Reporting

  • Provide regular updates on membership numbers, leads, and contest results.
  • Track your own activity (location, hours worked, number of people approached, etc.) to help refine sales strategies.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Ontario G Class Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Proven sales experience (retail, door‑to‑door, telemarketing, fundraising, or similar).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable approaching and speaking with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within Timmins and nearby communities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for events and peak times.

Assets

  • Knowledge of Timmins and surrounding communities, including Indigenous communities.
  • Experience with community outreach, canvassing, or event promotion.
  • Basic social media skills for promoting memberships and contests online.
  • Ability to explain services clearly to elders, newcomers, and people with different levels of English literacy.

Compensation

  • Commission‑based pay tied directly to performance.
    • Commission on each annual membership sold.
    • Commission on each monthly service fee sign‑up/activation.
  • Performance bonuses may be available during special contests or membership drives.
  • No base salary; this role is best suited to highly motivated individuals who enjoy commission sales and uncapped earning potential.

Work Environment

  • Field‑based role throughout Timmins and nearby communities.
  • Combination of door‑to‑door outreach, presence at community events, and online/phone outreach.
  • Support from Urban Buynship management for training, promotional materials, and contest planning.
